What Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections? At Joanne Helen Beauty Clinic, anti-wrinkle injections are more than just a procedure; they are a part of our artistic approach to facial rejuvenation. These injections are a non-surgical solution that strategically relax facial muscles, leading to a reduction in visible wrinkles and fine lines. How do wrinkles form? Wrinkles form on the face as a result of a combination of factors including the natural aging process, sun exposure, and genetics. Also, repetitve muscle movements such as talking, smiling, smoking, and kissing can lead to wrinkles on the skin, which can become permanent over time. 

The aging process can cause a reduction in collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin, leading to wrinkles even when the muscles are at rest. Sun exposure can also damage the skin and make it less able to return to its original shape.  As we age, our cheeks sag, resulting in wrinkles around the nose and mouth, as well as drooping corners of the mouth.

Anti-wrinkle injections, such as Botox, work by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles. By reducing the muscle contractions, the skin is smoother and less likely to wrinkle. The effects typically last 3-6 months and the injections can be repeated as needed.

FAQ - The Botox procedure typically involves a few simple steps, which will be performed by a fully qualified and insured professional.

1. Consultation: Before the procedure, you will have a full consultation to discuss your concerns and goals for the treatment and a face to face appointment with a medical prescriber to assess your medical history and examine your skin to determine if Botox is the right treatment for you.

2. Preparing the skin: Before the injections, the skin will be cleaned and a small amount of numbing cream may be applied to reduce any discomfort if needed 

3. Injecting the Botox: We will use a fine needle to inject small amounts of Botox into specific muscles in the face. The injections usually take only a few minutes to complete and are usually well tolerated. Effects appear within 3-7 days. 

4. Recovery: There is no downtime following the procedure, and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Some patients may experience some mild side effects such as redness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site, which should resolve within a few days.

5. Follow-up: We will schedule a follow-up appointment to assess the results of the treatment and to determine if any additional injections are necessary. The effects of Botox typically last for about 4-6 months, and the procedure will need to be repeated to maintain the results.

Who Cannot have Anti-Wrinkle Injections?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women: Botulinum toxin has not been studied in pregnant or breastfeeding women, and it is not known if it is safe for them to receive the injections.

  • Individuals with neurological disorders: Botulinum toxin injections may be risky for individuals with certain neurological disorders such as Myasthenia gravis, Eaton-Lambert syndrome, and other neuromuscular disorders.

  • Individuals who are allergic to any of the ingredients in the products: Some patients may be allergic to the ingredients in Botulinum toxin and therefore should not receive the injections.

  • If you have had facial surgery or plan to have surgery in the future​

It is important to have a consultation with a professional and a prescriber prior to the treatment. They will take into consideration your medical history, current medications, and overall health status to determine if anti- wrinkle injections are safe and appropriate for you.

How to prepare for your Anti-Wrinkle Injections -

  • Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for 24 hours before treatment.

  • Advised to stop taking any anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen, for a week prior to treatment.

  • Notify your professional of any antibiotics you may be taking, as some can interact with anti-wrinkle injections.

  • Discontinue use of, any topical creams or serums containing retinol or glycolic acid at least 24 hours before treatment.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that increase blood flow to the face immediately before and after treatment.

  • Avoid wearing makeup to your appointment, if possible
